worth investing in gold now..

   Iv been collecting for about 5 yrs (started when I was around 11) and am wondering if now is good time to invest in say a 2.50 or 5$ gold.....Ive been told not to by a fellow, trustworthy collector but with obama and spending and inflation  who know.   anyway just wondering on what you (more experienced than me) think             plz be honest !
