Which grading service should i use

I have a couple of old coins that i would like to have graded they are non bullion but have good detail.  They are mainly all from the 1890-1920 range any advice would be very help full. Thank you.

Not sure what you are looking for? PCGS is a service to grade coins.

Personally I would choose a service in the following order. Check out their websites to see what works for you.

1.) PCGS
2.) NGC
3.) ANACS
4.) ICG
5.) PCI

PCGS will keep your coin at the highest value so PCGS is who you want to have grade your coins.

I would recommend talking to a trusted dealer in your area first or maybe post some pics here before sending anything to be graded. The reason being is that it may not be worth the price or time to have them graded and put in plastic.  A good dealer will be able to review the coins for you first and let you know if it is worth sending the coins to PCGS or any of the other grading services. There are a couple of really great eyes on this forum. Try posting some of your coins on the Coin grading area.

It would be a very good idea to post some pictures of the coins and give us a chance to grade them before you spend the money to send them in for grading.

I recommend that also.  It may not be worth your money if it would not grade high.

And what happens when PCGS does not provide an accurate grade ? Or if they body bag a coin that is not deserving of being body bagged ?
 
Yes, I will agree that as a general rule coins slabbed by PCGS will bring a higher price. But that is because too many people believe market myths about PCGS. The reality of the situation is that PCGS is the single most inconsistent grading company of the top 4.
 
If you are going to submit coins for grading then consistency and accuracy are what you should be interested in receiving.

with that being said 10 out of 10 pcgs coins will sell higher than ngc , anacs or ICG.

I can't refute that PCGS makes mistakes but I would like to see your data that they make more than any of the top 4 services.

I have seen more overgraded gold crud in NGC and ANACS holder than PCGS. i.e. they put many more AU58 sliders in MS61/62 holders.

I personally have cracked out 20+ gold coins and had them come back with the exact same grade.

I would bet that the few coins that are borderline between two grades that people keep re-submitting are making the rumors of crummy grading bigger than they really are.

That is so true. At least discribe the coins you are talking about. Don't forget that the grading services charge money to grade those things. If you can't post a photo, try explaining what they are.

Data ? There is no data - only the past 20 years spent watching them all grade coins and the 26 years before that learning how to grade them myself. It is my opinion, and it is not an opinion held by me alone, that PCGS is the most inconsitent of the top 4 grading companies.

First, I am not a fan of slabbing coins other than key dates or heavily counterfeited issues.
 
However, if you wish to have them slabbed, here is my list.
 
1. NGC
2. Anacs
3. PCGS
 
Now that may shock some, but I have found this order to be the most consistant. (note:) I did not say most accurate.
 
We buy and sell many slabbed coins, and the rule that we use, is would we pay the same price if the coin was raw....
 
The plastic is great for protection, and does make it slightly easier to sell.
 
However, good dealers and collectors can grade for themselves, and do not need the plastic.
 
I don't charge extra for the plastic, and darn sure don't pay extra for it.
