I think Washington looks really silly on the new state quarters. Too flat, hair too curly (girly). Thoughts?   -sh

	I absolutely agree. I thought it looked funny when I first saw it. I gave it a chance and I still think he looks funny. The original looks much better. I hope they don't continue with this after the state quarter program.

	We are all creatures of habit. The "new" Washington rendering has a couple of changes. The relief is indeed not as high, thus the appearance of being more "flat" is true to what is actually there. The appearance of curly hair is due to a greater relief given to the hair lines which are the same lines as the old rendering. In my opinion, the new image is more true to the pictures of Washington recorded over time. Stick with the new one please!

	i have a unclad illinois quarter, even weighs less than the original? anybody know about one of these?

	i have a question and please remember i am a newbe. is the state quarter program being used by the government as a way to increase or generate a profit?

	I think most people would agree that they are doing it to reinvigorate the collectibles market. So yes. Keep in mind that the US Mint is one of the biggest profit makers in the government, as I recall..

	Given the great improvement in values for some recent mint issued coins and the flooding of the market in other areas, How would you folks rate the mint as a place for the new coin collector to purchase coins. Rate if you would some of the available ways to spend at the mint. BB

	The US Mint and BEP are the top two money makers that the government has. They make their profits by reissuing currency no longer in circulation. Be it by collectors or actual wear. The State Quarter program has 1 in 3 Americans putting them aside. Most are not really collectors, they do it simply because the quarters are new. The fascination has been wearing off the past couple of years, but still going strong. Bigbob, for the most part, buying directly from the Mint will save you some money at the time of issue, but not all their items hold their value. It really is a crap shoot most of the time.
