does anyone know a place where i can get some mercury dimes for a low price? im looking to start a mercury collection.

I just started a Mercury dime set myself while I was at the FUN show
and I have been slowly adding to it, at a local coin show or at the local
Brick & Morter shop.

I'd check the PCGS BST - as well as Ebay - but be careful of the "Bay"...there's alot of over priced / cleaned coins listed.

My grade of choice is VF 35... yours ?

i have an almost complete set of mercs, even the 42/41 overdates, p&d both. of course all of the keys and semi keys are circulated, but my lowest grade in my collection so far is a 42/41 p in F-12. the only coin i am missing is that elusive 16-d, hopefully i can pick one up b4 the summer is over........

Sounds like a nice set.

The 1916-D is a killer - and I very well may have to settle
for a net graded coin for my Dansco. Maybe a VF 25-30
with an old cleaning in an ANACS holder. A problem free coin
would cost a fortune.

Try flea markets. Many have coin dealers that sell for much less than coin shows, coin stores, etc. One by me a person sells coins but has no idea of what he has or just doesn't care. Every week he just puts out large bins of coins. A few with US coins and  a few with Foreign coins. He sells all Mercury Dimes for $1 regardless of date, mint mark, condition. If you buy many, he drops the prices even futher. I've found such coins as the 42D/41, 26S, 38 with full bands and lots, lots more in those bins. I usually get them for about $0.95 each. I know have well over 3,000 Mercury Dimes and mostly due to that one dealer.

One more thing about Mercury Dimes. If you put them in a 2x2 or album, note the reverses. If you can see the front and back you will notice that about 30% have rotated reverses. Don't know why but that coin is rather noted for that.

i was so happy when somebody paid for their grocery items with this today! im a cashier at Yosemite National Park, in Curry Village Gift. it was in the change they paid me with, and i happily tossed a regular dime in my drawer and bought it out ^^

I find the best place is to go to the coin shows. You can usaully barter a little with the dealers especially if the show is "slow". They will give you a better deal because their looking for any type of sale.
