I need help Identifying this coin.

   My mother recently showed me this coin and she is curious about it's origins. From what she's told me the coin may be French as my grandfather (her father) had traveled through France during World War II. If anyone could help me identify it, that would be helpful.

I'm very sorry if the images are too large. It's a bit squished so it was hard for me to make out anything.
