I have a 1920 Winged Head Liberty Dime (aka: Mercury Dime) that has been cut out along the lines of the Liberty portrait. The word "Liberty" remains around the edge, but the metal around the front and back of the head has been delicately removed.
Does anyone know when or why this was done??? Was it a popular thing to do to these dimes? Was the dime then meant to be displayed or worn as jewelry??
Any information would be very appreciated -- Thank you!
