Topic: A Mystery Coin...Posted: 15 Sep 2006 at 2:06pm |

(and new member, hi everyone!)
I have a mystery coin. I'm not sure how it got into my purse, but it somehow made it's way into there. It is a coin that is about 1/2 inch across, and looks like very tarnished gold or silver that's plated gold.
Only one side has writing on it and it says, "SHOWERTROL - TRUMBULL - SHOWERTROL" the other side is completely blank.
If I had to say, I'd guess it's from the past century.. probably around the past 30 years or so. I'm not hoping it's worth much, but I am so curious. I can't find documentation or any kind of information about it anywhere. I'll try to get a picture of it up sometime in the near future, but ANY help at all woudl be appreciated! THANKS!

Really have no idea on this one. My first guess would be a private token of some sort.

I agree, being blank on one side it is likely a token or medal of some kind; not a coin.

Thanks for all your help, everyone. What are personal tokens generally used for? It's driving me nuts that I can't find out what Showertrol means ANYWWHERE. o.O grr!

Two questions and an opinion !!
are the letters sunk into the metal or are they raised above ?
are they straight across the front or do they go around the outside edge ?
My opinion is that what you have is a knockout from a sprinkler system timer control electrical connection port.

My guess is it was a promotional coin from Trumbull Recreation Supply.
Check this link: http://www.trumbullrecreation.com/showertrol.html You might try calling them and asking. I know it is a long shot but it's all I could fine. Welcome. |

BINGO! Good detective work. Their site mentions tokens for their coin operated campground showers. No pic of the token though.

Wow.. thanks everyone! I am going to call them in the morning.. as for your question, metalman - they are raised letters, and they do go around the outside edge. the TRUMBULL is smack in the middle framed by a SHOWERTROL on each opposing edge. *Pics soon*
EDIT: Also.. haha, I have no idea where I possibly could have come into contact with this coin.. and metalman, what would the use of that be? Edited by hushling26 - 27 Sep 2006 at 3:50pm |
