50 state quarters

There are many MANY state quarters out there. I would collect for fun and beauty.  The original 1999 silver proof sets may continue to appreciate.

General question about sets from a newbie - why would a full set be worth so much more, resell-wise, than the sum of its parts?

Seems like maybe it's worth more to the person who collects it, for interest purposes.  However for resell, is it that common for a collector to want to buy full sets vs. just individual components, and to also pay more for those sets than a sum of the individual pieces?

Just wondering - sorry if it's a dumb question or offensive to those who collect sets.  As I'm building my collection, I'm getting individual samples of various types, and even doing that it's not the cheapest thing in the world (it'll be a few $k's before all is said and done).  Seems like if you're someone who collects full sets, including all mints, then you probably either specialize in one type of coin, or have significant financial means to collect sets of every coin out there.  Either way, it seems like it wouldn't be that hard to build sets one coin at a time, especially for such common coins as these.
